Celebrating 10 Years

Chapungu- The Day Rhodes Fell

Msezane Studios is honoured to announce a special release in celebration of a powerful milestone:

This year marks 10 years since the creation of Chapungu – The Day Rhodes Fell, a seminal work embodied by Sethembile Msezane in dialogue with the Zimbabwean Soapstone Bird and Rhodes Must Fall movement.

In the last decade, this work has featured in over 20 exhibitions and publications globally. It is prominently featured in collections such as the Iziko South African National Gallery. As we commemorate this moment in history, Msezane Studios is proud to launch the newly released second edition of this iconic piece.

This release is more than a celebration—it is a call to action.

A decade later, the struggle for accessible education continues. Across South Africa, financially vulnerable students are still protesting for the right to learn and remain enrolled. In response, Msezane Studios is committing to support the next generation of thinkers, artists, and historians through this campaign.

50% of all proceeds from this edition will be donated to a South African University to assist Fine Art, Curatorship and Art History students who face financial exclusion due to unpaid fees for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Now more than ever, the world needs art practitioners who will ensure that art and written histories reflect the times with truth and integrity. This initiative is our commitment to nurturing that legacy through both art and action.

Thank you for your continued support in amplifying the power of art with purpose.
